enough about the chicken

I'm done with the chicken.
But here is another pic and the linkwhere I got the tutorial from. Yes, it is much fun to make. yes, the children enjoyed playing with them.
I used popcorn in it instead of a dried bean or rice. They are not meant to be heat bags, so I used popcorn in case they should get wet. I mean, imagine, if you used rice or beans and it got wet. It would probably sprout! So popcorn it is.

Now on to this beauty.

The felting is tight and thick. Which leads me to believe that it may have come from Nepal.

Oh look, there are 2 of them!

On a what??@@!!!!!!????!!!

yes, big honkin' orange flowers on purple slippers!

And a nicely done bottom. they do keep the cold out. Do you like my newly sanded and varnished floors? I heart my new floors.

Here's the slipper on my foot. Yes, it's a bit grotesque, but they are mine (only $2.99) and I adore the workmanship. They are loved. :}

Thanks for lookin'

Felted soap

I've been looking for a nice soap to make felted soap with. And at a reasonable price. I finally found some made of goat's milk and oatmeal. I love. it. i originally bought a bunch, tried one out and used them all up in the shower without felting them.

I found a supply again and set about to try it out.

After felting with brightly coloured wool and the dye coming out when used, I decided to go with the undyed grey wool and used a few accent colours.

To me, it looks so earthy.

wool flower clips

I've had these done for awhile now, but forgot about them.

I had needle felted some shapes and wet felted them.

Then I sewed them together.

I like the zig zag stitch in this one

And a sheriff badge for the boys.

They look kinda big in my daughter's hair. here it is in mine.

I clipped it to my ribbon headband yesterday and people thought it was the headband.
I may even make them bigger to go with the fastenator fad now.

Sorry for the onslaught of monkeys readers, but someone in this house that is taller and hairyer than me thinks this is funny!

Luckily, I do too!

bowl full of monkeys

What's better than a barrel of monkeys?
A bowl of em!

The large ball has been wet felted in the washer after I needle felted the face. It came out pretty tight and as you can see, it isn't as fuzzy as the rest of them.

Look ma, no hands!

The little ones are going to be key chains or zipper pulls. I'll show you when I get them done.

Fun times around here!

Thanks for looking,

wool balls tea pot trivet

Here's the tea pot trivet I made with all those balls.

I think I may try one in a square next time, should there be one. There are glass bead in between the balls.

And not to have just one photo, here is a "time" at our house. This instrument is called an Ugly Stick. It is made out of a mop, piece of birch on the bottom and lots of washers and beer bottle caps. It is commonly used in Newfoundland when having a good scuff. It makes a good jangly sound.

The kids get a little rangy every once and awhile, so we put on some music. This time, we put on a CD from the band my brother used to be the drummer for,Da Rock
This type of music calls for some instruments, the ugly stick and some spoons made their way into the merriment.

I always said, if you want a fun workout program, just do 3-5 Newfie Jigs a day. Google it. Some fun wha?

Have a good one,
Amanda

Felt bead bookmarks

K, I have to get more imaginative with my titles and with my line of crafting.
So another post on wool, felting and little balls... guess I'm in a mode.

Last weekend, my girlfriend and I went to the fabric district and happened upon Arton beads Oh. My. Word! And I'm not even a jewelry person or beader. (yes, I made that word up. I think) Anyhow, I bought a bunch of findings that I've been wishing I had. Here is one of them....

The metal Book marks. These are the small size. They also had some more ornate ones with mermaids, dolphins and I think even some kinds of skullery. Fun stuff!

Being in a wool bead mood, I made these up. The rainbow beads are from Deserres, the winter ones, I made. A few more of these will be made and played with.

wet felting beads

Today was the day for wet felting some beads.
1st you have to chose a willing assistant.

Beads have been previously needlefelted.

Warm soapy water, towel, fish dish with some extra dishsoap and a tray to catch all the drips.

With such little balls, I just use warms soapy water in the bowl. The kids can put their hands in it without it being too hot. And I add the soap in the water.

Let them dip and roll.(I love the little bit of chub she has in her hands, even though she has spouted up and lost it elsewhere)

I also made some large balls with the intent for them to be dryer balls. Just let me say that I'm not pleased with the wool dryer ball. They don't take the static away. And here, in the winter, there is a lot of static. It's very dry. even just this past week was dry. I got shocked taking the clothes out of the dryer, shaking the clothes from the dryer to get rid of the static and shocked folding the clothes. Too much electricity for me. think I'll go back to my fabric sheets until it's a little more humid.

So I did a little needle felting to see how it would felt in the washer.

Not bad. Guess what the one on the far left is going to be?!

Oh, and I have very itchy, sore palms from the little ones. But worth it. Wait till you see what I'm going to make!

Cheers,
Amanda

Piggy ball

Here's the piggy ball.

This time I wet felted the ball. First, I needle felted the shape of it. Adding layers like needle felting, but not making them so tight and dense.

And here is the after I wet felted it. It did shrink a bit.

After it dried, it wasn't as dense as the needle felted one. I think i prefer the denser ball.
Little piggy tail.

And with the ears on the top.

And the happy piggy. At least, I think he is. Is that his tongue sticking out?

Here's the post on the doggie ball
and theowl ball

This happened on the weekend. I have a scrapbook page in mind for this one. Imagine, me with a scrapbook page in my mind! It's been a long time since that happened. Just need to clear the sewing clutter off my desk to make room for paper, scissors and glue!

Have a good one,
Oh, False alarm on the computer breakdown. I just plugged it in, closed the cover and did a little heekeejeekee dance around it.
And pressed the power button for a long time. It made weird sounds and then powered up!. Hurrah! But hubby still thinks it's on it's last legs. shhhh.
