peaceful wishes

With a little help from Stampin' Up stamps and some shipping tags, we made a batch of wishes for 2012.

After our traditional New Year's Raclette of course.

here's the back

This pile o spools and buttons came from a garland a la Martha Stewart. I love thrift shops!

Then we put the spools on. The buttons wouldn't go on with the thick string, so we left them off.

Then we hung them up with out snowflakes. It looks a bit messy, but the kids like to read them and find their wish. We left a few blank to add more when they come to us.

And many peaceful wishes to you for 2012. Thanks for joining me this past year(s) and hopefully more in 2012.
Cheers,
Amanda

Teapot Bunting

This was whipped up for a little party decoration. It was a tea party, hence, the teapot.

I searched for a teapot on Google image and pasted it into InDesign. There may be other ways to enlarge it, but this was the easiest I could think of. Can't waste precious time trying to figure such things out when there is sewing to be done! The original teapot was more wide than tall, so I rotated it to be on the paper sideways and stretched it out. Just right for a triangle bunting.

Instead of cutting the triangles with my straight edged rotary cutter, I used a scalloped edge blade. Softens it up a bit.

The doilies came from Ikea. I knew I would find a use for them.

It was a warm, sunny day. 25 degrees Celsius. A gift really. It was enjoyed.

Cheers,
Amanda

winter around the house

Here is our shower curtain for Christmas. The ornaments were little in comparison to the tree, but were cute none the less. When I take them down (it is O Christmas day today, guess I should take down the real tree too) I'm going to put more snowflakes. We finally have snow, but not the snowman kinda snow. When we do that one, I'm going to make a snowman to put at the bottom of the tree.

And last night, I just HAD to stay up late to change the Christmas bunting to a snowflake bunting.

It came from a mini kit at michael's before Christmas. I sewed the flakes on with a button.

Just a little bit of winter to bring inside....

Halloween bunting

A few weeks ago, Elizabeth at My Crafty Mess , hosted a giveaway for a Halloween bunting. Since we have just stated our bunting collection
celebration banner
and kid's foamie banners
I had to comment. And I won!

The bunting arrived in the mail today. There were a few ooohs and aahhhhs from the kids and I hung it over the window. Yes, we will have some autumnal colours here a while longer.

thanks Elizabeth! Go check her out!

tomorrow, a felt ham sandwich!

banner day

We had another GREAT crafting day.
I've been wanting to make something to help personalize the space around the kids' beds. We finally put them together as bunk beds and they are so excited. I was telling them that I wanted to make some banners like the previous one and Neve says," let's make them out of this". I had a pack of foamie rectangles I just bought at the buck store. Great idea!!

And just the right size for my 2x2 Quickutz dies. We had fun choosing colours, dies and ribbon. the glue stick and foam were flying. Here's Neve's. I love how she glued the extra strips onto the large triangle. I'm learning to think out of this box with this kid.

And here is Rafael's.

He did the layout and photo on the 1st one above. Little artsy one, that.

celebration banner

I was all set to do some sort of craftiness last night, but couldn't think of what. I grabbed my book, the Creative Familyby Amanda Blake Soule for a little look.
I came across the banner.

Whenever we have a little celebration here, Rafael wants to decorate. This will kick it up a notch.

I used white on the back so I can write the title and date of each celebration. Should be a great memory keeper. And if I wanna be really good at moment keeping, I could print a pic of the occasion and put it on a fabric transfer and iron it on. That would be cool.
The other fabrics are from the big fabric craze I had for Ikea this summer. I made bags from all of these fabrics and have fond memories of them. And they all match. Can't beat that. I cut them with my rotary cutter, super fast. I left the edges raw with visions of them fraying and frizzing when I wash them.
For the size, I took an 8.5 x 11 sheet of cardstock, measured out the middle on the 8.5 side and drew lines from the top of the page to make a triangle. yeah, that doesn't make sense to me either when I read it. Size of triangle is 8.5 x 11.

I look forward to moving this banner around my house for various celebrations and looking back on the celebrations each time we take it out.
