mini mum felt clips

I saw this tutorial on Craftiness is Not optionala bit ago and have been waiting until I could try it out.

I made them smaller. Considerably smaller than the headband size she made. My measurement was 1 inch by 4 for the hairclip flowers.

This was the first I made which is a little bigger. For a pony tail elastic.

This is the barrette size on an elastic for small pig tails or pony.

very fun to make and make for a bit of happy with those colours!

ribbon hairbands

One of the local fabric stores (it's the only one that is less than a 10 minute drive, everything else is at least 30 minutes, dragola) has the most amazing ribbon section. Just beautiful designs.
I got inspired by a plain headband I bought at the dollar store and pumped it up a notch.

Aren't they just gorgeous?

Oh look, mini tutorial!
Adjust lengths to the size of head, but this works for me and for my 5 year old. Cut ribbon 13 inches. The elastic is 6.5. Again it depends on how much the elastic stretches. I cut the original the same as the dollar store one, but it was too tight as my elastic is a better quality and doesn't stretch so much. Please note: Elastic needs to be thinner than the ribbon.
With the elastic on the right side of ribbon, fold the ends of the ribbon around the elastic as below. Sew a little in from the end.

Turn it right side out. Do the same for the other side. There you go. Done!

And if you really want to get silly, try wearing them all at once!

wool flower clips

I've had these done for awhile now, but forgot about them.

I had needle felted some shapes and wet felted them.

Then I sewed them together.

I like the zig zag stitch in this one

And a sheriff badge for the boys.

They look kinda big in my daughter's hair. here it is in mine.

I clipped it to my ribbon headband yesterday and people thought it was the headband.
I may even make them bigger to go with the fastenator fad now.

hair clip holder

Here she is completed....

My first clip holder was from Sewing for Children
And my 2nd one wasn't quite done in my mind as seen here

So finally, I got to it and put it together.

The flowerpot is a pouch to hold ponytail holders and other treasures like silly bands.

Wool sweater flowers and leaves. Bit o ribbon for the stem.

And you have a place to hang as many hair clips as you can.

Wool Flowers

In a bit of Thrifty Thursday news, my quest to score on wool sweaters this week paid off. I still would like red, orange and yellow, but I'll take the ones I have thank you.
And from them....

Happy, spring, wool flowers. They come from the book Fun to Wear- Fabric Flowers It's the flower on the cover.

The purple flower is made from felt. I have an idea for these as hair clip holder.
Speaking of such, here's my interpretation of a Hair clip holder:

I love how I made the leaves out of the ribbon.

So there are another few reasons to dig into this stash.

Last night, I had the most wonderful dream. Before going to bed, I went on the website Colours of Australiaand read the Papoose story. I wandered around Nepal and Mexico with her and then wandered around Thailand in a friend's blog. So last night, I wandered around these wonderfully amazing places on earth. And it keeps coming back to my mind today. Which is rather nice, considering I woke up to some surprise snow. Well, a surprise to me. As my son stated, " I knew it was going to snow. The Wii said so. The Wii is smart" So there you go. Listen to the Wii.

Hair Clip Holder

I'm forever looking for hair clips. Of course, they are all upstairs. That's where we take the hair style out at night, but we put the hair up downstairs in the mornings. Maybe this will help?

This comes from the book Sewing for Childrenthat I bought at Christmas. There are a few things here I want to make. I also made some fairy wings from there, but need to work on how the kids get them on. It's formulating in my mind.

Back to the clip holder. All the shapes are cut using Quickutz and the cuttlebug. I sewed the hanging ribbon to the batting inside the pot before I sewed the pot pieces together. That way, it will be a little stronger.

Did you see the skull ponytail holder? My new way of making clips, holders... covered buttons. fun.
Now I just need to make one for us. This is a birthday gift. I tell ya, my goal of making all presents this year is going to be the end of me. I need to make a stash. Is everyone born in the 1st few months of the year? lol

felt hair clips

hi ho,
well, the kids need a haircut again, so that means I need to make more clips. (I sell them at their hair cut place)
Here is the obligatory halloween clip. I'm going to make some candy corn clips too.


And the autumnal leaves... love the ginger colour and the moss green


And some purdy butterflies. I decided to change up the front a bit and swap the colours, but they're still a pair. And what do you think about that? I actually made pairs! I hate making pairs, but I was very good about doing these.


And my attempt to be a little artsy in my phototaking. The whole post was to be with greenery in the background, but my camera is having some issues. User issues I'm sure. Or maybe the wind blowing everything to kingdom come?


All shapes were cut using my QuicKutz dies and the cuttlebug machine.

I LOVE felt!!!! I can't do what's in my brain fast enough! I LOVE it!
Here are some hair clips I whipped up. Still experimenting the last one I did was the blue/yellow combo. It is closer to where I want it to be.
