mittens mittens!

On Saturday, I kept sneaking to my very messy sewing room and happily made mittens. Yes, mittens. out of wool sweaters. On a most Awesome warm day of Autumn.

The pattern is from Warm Fuzzies from Betz White. I made a batch last year here I moved the thumb over a little towards the outside of the hand. It just sits a little better.

After a few scores of wool sweaters this summer, I just had to make something out of them.

I look forward to many more combinations of sweaters.

But not the cold days of winter!

Cheers,
Amanda

3 little kittens have found their mittens

Here's another thing to cross of the list. Mittens!

I mean, there's only a few months left of winter right? right?

This mitten pattern comes from Betz White's book Warm Fuzzies
And a hat to go with the mittens,. The jury is still out on this hat. it makes me laugh because it is so quirky. And yes, it does look like an upside down sweater. I think I'll take the side points off and make it a straight line.

I had fun trying different sizes, materials ( felted sweaters, cotton sweaters, and fleece) and edging. I serged a pair with right sides out so I wouldn't have to turn them. It's the orange blue yellow pair. Kinda cute. Kinda looks like an oven mitt.

I do want to adjust the thumb pieces though. The placement of the thumb is a little off side so the mitten twists. Hopefully I can figure it out. If I do, I'll be serious about buying wool sweaters and everyone is getting mittens for Christmas next year. And I have to do them now, while the joy of mittens is still in me!

microscope slide ornaments all in a row

I had a big blitz of making these ornaments the other day. The ideas and combinations are endless, I could happily spend another week making different designs.
here they are all in a row:

Here are some from the music collection

And one for ballet

And another from the see through collection. These are a little tricky, as you need to consider the hook on the back. I make the swirl of the hook part of the ornament. I use crystal effect from Stampin' Up! to adhere the hooks.

The shapes are die cuts from Quickutz and Cuttlebug. and the music notes from a mini punch set from the Philippines. I need to add some ribbon to the hooks to finish them off.

The colours are a shade off in the 1st few photos. Playing around with my settings too much. And notice the background blurry in the HO Ho Ho one? New camera! Heee heeeeeeee!

Wanna cuppa?

I was so excited when my friend, Sarah, from www.sarahiscrafty , showed me her cards with the Quickutz Winter shapes. I was giggly. I had this idea in my mind that took me a few days to finish. So happy with it.

The paper is from K&Company. I bought the Christmas pack at Winners. They have awesome paper packs for cheap, cheap, cheap. The snowflakes are Cuttlebug and the tag plate is from the buck store. I thought I had the sentiment, "Warm Winter Wishes" but didn't so I wrote it and cut it. Having the dots on both ends was a fluke, but a good one.

Hope you like. I have a few more ideas with this set that also includes a snowman and 2 snowflake shapes.
