a bit of looming...

Howdy!
You're still coming back? thanks. Sorry it's only once a week and not much crafting going on. I'm still de-cluttering. Here a good tip: If you bring a box of donation to Goodwill, don't go in the store and bring more stuff home!!

But how could I pass up this baby!?

A fashion weaving loom at that.
Love the comb. I also made a shuttle you can see in the 1st picture. It came with a long plastic needle, but how do you have a ton of yarn behind that every time you pass it through without getting it all tangled? Neve is loving it. She may only do 2 lines at a time, but she goes to it a few times a day.
Here's a question for you gardeners...
What are the spiderwebby things on these plants? Is it indeed some kind of web or egg covering thing? Sorry, my gardening language is not very elaborate. Your knowledge is most appreciated.
That's it for now.
Thanks for looking,
Amanda

Another Thrifty SCORE!!

I tell ya, my friend Charlotte can spot a good find a mile away. She has especially good radar for little girl treasures. On this thrifty occasion, she brought over a box to Neve. There was much oohing and ahhhing, but as I was deep into the rack of wool sweaters on sale for .99 cents each, I didn't pay it much mind. Until we came home.
WOW!

I don't know the Madeline stories, but we will be sourcing them out on our next library trip.
This is the nun. The costume is amazing in details.

And then the 2 girls!

Here they are dressed to go exploring.

With a hat and overcoat, doncha know!

And the little detail on the side of the hat.

The drawers in the bottom of the case have some treasures as well.
Framed Photo..

A passport. I didn't even think to open it to see what is inside.

Some postcards.

A suit bag.

Look at the nun's bun...

And her undergarments.

Isn't it a girls dream kit? I can't wait to get a few books for her to re-enact the stories. It will be fun and is treasured already.

And I found 4 good wool sweaters for mittens. Yes, a good day at the thrift store.

Thanks for looking,
Amanda

Friday Finds

Happy Mother's day to mothers and a special nod to those who made them mothers!

I just got up from a micro nap under the sun in the yard. I was looking forward to that all day. This morning, I came down to the kitchen to a huge chocolate cake. It had been made after I went to bed last night, 10pm, and done from scratch, by hand, so the mixer wouldn't wake me. And yes, the icing was just as good with sour cream. Rich. Lovely. I just polished off the 2nd piece while writing up this blog. no, I'm not going to burn it off.

anyhow, this wagon of herbs have been planted and more bought since this picture was taken.

My friend and I went to a new Goodwill in Etobicoke on 50% off Friday. We walked in and commented on how fresh it was in both light, space and scent. yep, nice.
There was about 50 million and a half yards of this lemon fabric! new fabric, not even washed from the store. And the stripe one is a shower curtain. New. and half price. they rang it in as twin sheets. yep, cheap. $2 each. crazy.

some sweaters for felting. Although, the black one has been taken by my friend who was partial to it. I may even wear the purple one myself. Nice colour, but I do need some purple wool. hmmm???!!!!

Bought this pottery pot for my uncle. Nice.

What else? Some long boots, books, a Lark Publication book on hats for the whole family with the patterns and everything. Yes, it was printed in 1998, but it's all a matter of fabric. I'm sure there's something in there I will make.
My DD bought a ton of books also. All in all, a good shop, even though I wasn't thinking I liked the store. I wasn't rummaging enough. But my basket was full. go figure. Is it the thrill of the find? The rummage and the hunt? The 50% off excitement? maybe all of it.

Off to finish enjoying the warmth of the sun before everyone comes home.

Have a good one.

friday finds

This week in thrift.. aprons.

This little treasure was spotted by my eagle eyed friend and she allowed my to have it. Too precious not to go home with one of us. And since I have this Portugal connection, i.e. he sleeps in my bed, it's now proudly mine.

The stitching is simply amazing! A well practiced hand has been here. I wonder what it's history is?

The whole thing is a giant pocket! Which is very handing whilst cleaning up and having to bring things from room to room. My DH says it was probably used to gather whatever was for dinner from the garden. Doesn't that sound great? And indeed, we did that when we went to DH's family's home in Portugal.
here Nothing like fresh from the ground to the table.

Another apron is this pink one. The gingham in light pink with all the stitching was a draw again.

A bit of patience here also.

A little lighter for hot summer days crafting outside in the yard. I have some plans.

have a good one,
Amanda

Friday finds

As Thrifty Thursday usually happens on Friday, I'll change the title. Hence Friday Finds.
I bought this beauty about a month ago. So excited.

How many times did I try to bring a cuppa tea and a snack upstairs and balance it all with a project I had downstairs? Fight no longer. From what I can tell, it's handmade. The coaster is stuck to the tray. nice. I did break it a few days ago, but I have a husband who is a fixer. Double nice.

I also decided that I want to trade my boring Canadian Tire mugs (store in Canada) to pottery mugs. The wee one is for the Missy Moo. The others are not hand made, but I like 'em. Especially the one with the tea in it. Yes, my tea is usually that weak when I have orange pekoe. I like to bless the cup with the tea bag rather than have it steeping for hours.

While I'm on the tea mug thing, here's another score from a shop. Brand new in box..
JoeMo travel tea mug What's so special about it? Many things. It's a thermos, so I load it up, put the cover on and throw it in my bag. No more saving a hand to carry it. It stays hot. It's a bit of a con..it doesn't cool down. I'm used to preparing super hot tea and letting it cool down on the way to school. Then I enjoy it. With this mug, it doesn't cool down, so I have to wait longer. No biggie, just an adjustment. The drinking lid is a push down button so that you can drink it from any part, not just a hole in the edge. And the best part of all......it has a tea leaf basket! Since I buy flavoured tea as loose leaf tea, I can put the leaves in the basket, pour the water in, put the cover on and let it brew. Then dump the leaves when it is steeped. Bonus. I have to say.. it is THE best travel mug I have ever had. check it out.
Hmm, think I'll put the kettle on. Wanna cuppa?

cheers,
Amanda
