1st Communion Card

Oh. Ma. Gursh!!!! I made a card! I made a card! I can't tell you the last time I made a card.

It's for a 1st Communion. Stampin' up stuff. Here's the inside.

A QuicKutz impression plate and a First Communion stamp I bought years ago at a LSS.

And more great news... the sewing machine isn't busted. I was using the wrong bobbin. Thank goodness. It my uncle's machine that I had tuned up in January. I also took my machine in for an overhaul. Waiting for the estimate on that one, but the guy said it was a good machine. Maybe it will be worth the money to fix it. I bought it when I was doing my Masters. Dirt poor student. I bought it on a Sears credit card. How I got that is another story I'll put below. I don't know how much the interest was, but I paid only about 20 bucks a month on it and took me over 2 years to pay for it. How much do you think it really cost me?!!! lol

k, now the story of how I obtained a credit card... I left my home in Newfoundland that summer after finishing my undergrad in Nova Scotia. I had about $600 in my pocket and was on my way to London, Ontario to attend Western University of Ontario. I stopped in Ottawa for a week for a vocal workshop. While in a mall, I was stopped by the credit card lady. I told her I didn't have any address, any bank account or any income. She said to fill out the forms anyway, I could have free steak knives. ohh, I must have been weak. I filled out the form with my parent's address, I'm guessing, took the steak knives and somehow received the credit card. I still use those steak knives. It was worth it. :}

oi, nuff dredging up the past for me. Makes me shiver.

sewing card

I bought this sewing stamp set at a 2nd hand sale recently, but there was no label as to what company it is.

Yep, this is what happens when you haven't made a card in some time and want to incorporate the fabric scraps lying on your floor. What can I say?? not much.
I also made a pink and brown boa scarf. This time, I made it only 3 inches wide and only 3 layers. I wanted it to be a little more fluffed out, so I rearranged the layers after I sewed them the first time and then re-sewed it with a wide zigzag stitch to hold it down in another direction. I know, not making a lot of sense. But it did what I wanted it to do, kinda. I have to shake it a bit. Maybe I should print a "how to" card with the gift? lol,

Going crazy making crayon wallets and hairclips. My aim is to make 4 wallets a night. So far, so good. 2 nights down, 18 more to go before the Christmas Bazaar. No, I'm not aiming to make 72, only 50! There are some other things I want to sell also.

Frankenstein

In my cruisin' on the web today, i found this on Nap Time Journal
here is our version:

it was perfect for today's crafting session. I love her blog. Great ideas.
Here is Neve's interpretation:

Kinda looks like she has a mustache. I'll have to ask her. I do know that she was pretty consistent in putting warts on all the noses, much to the unhappiness of her brother. I had to make new noses.

Here is a teeny one i made for my nephew's 1st halloween. Too cute. I made a few more with felt for the kids and glued it on cardstock. They can wear them as pins. I don't have a picture at present, They are being treasured at the end of their beds.

Many halloween parties to attend tomorrow between 9 and 1. Hope I can keep up. I'm sure they will be well sugared!

the Maple Leaf forever!

Did that bring a song to your ear? Alexander Muir wrote the unofficial national anthem"Maple Leaf Forever" back in the day, before "O Canada" became the official national anthem. Cool thing about it, he wrote it while living? visiting? staying? in a little house a few minutes from here. He was inspired by the maple tree in the yard. A few years ago, the city fixed up the house, called it Maple cottage and it is now used for local events and city run programs. I was invited to sing in a quartet at the opening ceremonies. Was a neat event and nice enough memory to tell you about it!

So..... anyway.....,,

we've been playing with the new Quickutz maple leaf die. They requested card making for craft session today. I love when that happens. All gathered around the cuttlebug on the floor with bits of paper and smiles all around as they glue, glue, glue.
Man, am I a little talkative tonight or wha? enough of that.

here is a card:

And another

It was very hard NOT to add anything else to this card.

And here is a card where I added TOO much. I loved the natural paper, then went a little crazy on the pearls. Oh well.

I cut out more in felt, music sheets and print. Oh yes, and some cork. I'm off to play.

Thanks for looking and Happy Gobble Gobble weekend to you.

birthday balloons and someone else's giveaway!

A quick card for a man who's not into sailing, golfing or sock monkeys. lol What do you do for a man who isn't into sailing, golf or sock monkeys? Balloons, Everyone could use a balloon or 2 on their birthday!

The white squares with the stars I picked up last summer in Laval. Wish sentiment is from Papertrey Ink- Text Boxed and the balloons are from PTI- Everyday balloon bits. inside, I used the sentiment from the same set and A wooden "fence post" from Michael's.

Take a look at this
www.frugalfamilyfunblog.com/
It's a new program where the kids can design their own stuffed animal on screen and it comes to life in the printer. Special fabric and tear away paper and a bit of stuffing makes this an easy personalized project. My kids would go nuts for this! She's giving 2 prizes away. Quick, go see...... and look around the rest of the blog. great ideas and projects.

cheery time

shhhhh.... I'm home alone. on a Sunday , after church. eating a bacon and egg sandwich with 5 year old Canadian white cheddar. Listening to Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe. Perfection. Shhhhh. I don't know when everyone is coming back. But I hope it's not a for a while! lol

Last night, we went to a family meal to celebrate a dear Tia's bday last month. I made this card using Papertrey Ink's Everyday Button Bits. used the Polka Dot basics 2 on the side of the card and some Bella dots on the bottom. Pleased that the retired SU purely pomegranate matched the current cherry paper.

Almost finished my sandwich. Now must go to my room and sew, sew sew. Little girl headbands are on the menu today.

Hi ya card

Here is the last card I made in my frenzied papernight last week.
What is it???!!?!?!!

I had the vision of using the alphabet and the HI to be highlighted. Yeah, my QK alphabet die was a little bigger than I thought. And I didn't shim it enough in my cuttlebug to get all the letters out. i was in a hurry to finish before everyone came home. So I kept going. I should have waited. The flowers and little snail (look under the big pink button, it's really a snail) are from a thing I picked up at Zellers. yep, this one is a bit much to look at. Not quite flowing, KWIM?

Anyhow, we're off to Shelbourne tomorrow. So I don't know if we'll have internet access. Big news around here (Halifax) is the coming hurricane expected on Sunday night. Hope it holds off enough until the sailing regatta my DH is here for is done.

Till next time,

that's a scrappy card

Here's a card with no stamping! Wanted to use my SU leaves die and found the flowers in my stash/ I think they are Heidi Swapp.
Pearl brad from a trip to NS last summer and the lace is from a fabric store downtown. the lace border is Martha Stewart punch. Embossing is a Quickutz plate.

I just got the new diamond and dots one AND 2 new stamp sets from Papertrey ink!!!!!!! Christine over at Scraptime.ca went to CHA and visited nicole's booth. I'm sooo thrilled she was able to pick up the Button set and the polka dot basic set for me. And I don't have time to play with them. boo hoo. Off to Nova Scotia in the morning and I'm bringing sewing with me. you know what? It takes up less space than if I was to take enough stamping supplies to satisfy me! and I'm dying to use my mother's grown up serger instead of my mini one. Am I a little obsessed or wha?

Check back for a few more cards over the week. and maybe a few sewing projects.

A bird and a song

I got some time this evening to make some cards. I guess I was in a scrappy mood, by the looks of my 5 card stash! So more to come. One at a time girls, one at a time.

This one uses Cuttlebug music embossing folder, Quickutz bird, nestabilities label die, and Stamping bella's wacky weeds. the sentiment is from a shop in Lunenburg, NS.

We're off camping for the weekend. Should be fun. Looking forward to more swimming. the kids love it. And I love them being old enough to do it.

new home card

Lookeee here! I made a card!

Loving this little birdie and house. And the polka dots. I feel I'm a little out of the loop on the new card making stuff. I haven't been to a scrapbook store since May! can you believe it? But I'm getting in the mind set to start making some of my glass ornaments and practice my soldering again.

I think we're back on this time zone, so my energy level after dinner will allow me to create and make. I bought a batch of new fabrics that i have visions for also. The only thing I'm getting done are crochet flowers. I take those to the parks while the kids play.

Speaking of such, I can't wait for the city strike to be over. the pools and wading pools and summer programs are all shut down. It's sad. the kids are so eager to go swimming. Looking for some other things to do instead of the splash park near here. I'm getting a nice go on my bicycle though. And pulling 2 kids in the bike trailer makes for a good workout. It's all uphill on the way home.

Oh, some details on the card: Bird and house Quickutz, Branch and star-Stampin' Up!, Oval-nestabilities, paper-2 different kinds, sorry, don't know. Star tags, maybe prima? Comes in a little can. Sentiment-Stamping bella

That's all for now, got my desk cleared a little so hopefully I'll get to more papercrafts. I wanna scrap a page or 2 of our holiday.

a card! a card!!

THUD!!!
That's how I feel today. i got a yucky head cold. I could feel it invade my head as I sang in church yesterday. My voice was bang on. it's a phenomenon singers enjoy for the few nano seconds it lasts. The sound you produce is resonating beautifully in the little sinus space you have left before WHAM! the cold strikes. Anyhow, you would not want to see me right now. or hear me, or witness the sneezing, runny nose, hacking... you get the drift.
But hey!! I got to stamp!

My cousin in law is having a baby shower in her honour this weekend. Since I don't get prezzies for the baby until it is born, I came up with a solution not to come empty handed... thank you notes for the shower gifts. I did this previously and it was a hit. So here is another try. Still thinking about this one. I may have some baby things that will fit in the circle. Will play more later....

circle card

Hi ho,
just a little something today I made this past week when I was not feeling well. It took me over an hour to put this together!!!!!
I can blame it on no mojo, being sick, but I think it is b/c I was working with purple!! lol Purple always puts a choke hold on my creative muse. I just can't work with it confidently.

We're off to Rafael's piano recital today. We're not so hyped up about it this time. Guess it's old hat now. :} May take the subway there as an adventure.

I spent last night happily sewing a banner and apron for my friend's booth at the Distillery District this weekend. She has the eco-friendly online toy store www.littlefootprintstoys.com . Sorry, I can't figure out how to link it. Copy and paste. Have to wait for hubby to tell me how. I keep forgetting.

Have a great weekend. Hoping to do a bit more sewing and play with some new Stampin' up stuff.

Amanda

new birdie house

howdy!
Well, we have all recuperated from the nasties! Stayed home yesterday and we flaked out! Today, I spent my bday gift certificate and then some, at the LSS. Yeah!
I present to you, Quickutz bird and house 2x2 die. I've been wanting this one for some time now. today was the day.

The sentiment is from Stamping Bella. The completed sentiment says, Congrats on your new home. I put that last part on the inside. Oh yes,I also used QK new embossing folder. Not bad!

I have another idea for the birds... just to find time.

SU case

Here's the 1st card I cased to get my mojo going last week. I haven't stamped since then, so it's the last I have to show you until I get another hit of inspiration.

it's in the Stampin' Up! catalogue. Don't have it right now, i can't tell you what page it is on.
Of course, I had to change it up a bit. I used Quickutz revolution flowers die and Sizzix buttons die.

We spent the day at an indoor fair, complete with ferris wheel and mini train. It was an awesome day. it's an annual thing and our 3rd year going on May 1st. It's cool to note how each year, my daughter can do more and more. And my son is becoming a speed demon! Here's a special picture from today for my valued Mississauga reader. Beijinhos.

no plans tomorrow, I'm hoping to do some stamping. i finished the dress, but my model isn't being cooperative at present, so maybe another time. And I'm working on another dress.

another cupcake

Here I am between masses at church, hooked into their wi-fi. Our phone line is down at home! Oh the horror! the horror!! I have to go home to no internet! gasp! LOL Hope the rain stops so we can go outside.

here's another cupcake card I made for our choir director. It was the 1st one I made of the cupcake designs. The card base is from Ikea. The cupcake is one I drew and cut out. The candle is from Michael's. Numbers is cuttlekids die.

That's about it. Looking forward to sewing Neve's dress tomorrow. May even get to it today at nap time. The kids spent the whole day from 9:30-7pm at the sailing club yesterday. Everyone is a little wiped today. We had weather from sunny and fine to raging wind storms where the boats were all blowing over on shore and there were big crashing waves and swirls of water on the lake. Leaves blowing in huge gusts! Quite an event. My husband went out in the motor boat to rescue two sailors that got caught in the storm. Yes, quite the adventure!

it's a shoe thing

Well, this is a little different for me.
I pulled out this kraft and black card base from Ikea (purchased a long time ago) and added the white accents. I was planning on making a congrats on your new home card, but it wasn't workin' for me. The next day, I pulled out some chipboard pieces I had and the sentiment from Stamping Bella.

Added a bit of clear ribbon and rhinestone brads on my nestabilities ovals and there ya go.

It's a beauty day here. Off to the sailing club later for a BBQ. Tis sailing season. that means Amandaseason is almost over. lol
I've been blurfing other types of blogs lately and have been hit by the sewing bug. So last night, I went fabric shopping and am making a dress for Miss Neve. I realized that I'm also in a red mood. I bought 2 other outfits in red for her. Could I be growing out of my brown favoured mood? I have a tote bag pattern and a skirt pattern for me. Hope I get to sew it all.

glitter cupcakes anyone?

Here is a fun card I came up with....(one of 4 I made yesterday. yeah!)

I've had my eye on various cupcake dies, but there is always something that I don't like about them. So I cut out my own last night. Pre-glittered paper is my friend! I have to get more colours. The cupcake liner is pre-corrugated paper. you could use a paper crimper. The candle is from Michael's. It said it was fence pickets, but when I saw it, I thought CANDLES! I coloured them with markers.

The numbers are Cuttlekids. I have to shim it a bit to make it work in my cuttlebug. I wanted a birthday number, but already on hand, so I made it a twenty something? Heck, I'll settle for thirty something. Flattery. What else? Oh yes, the cuttlebug dots embossing folder for the middle patch and the card base is a premade one from Target I bought a long time ago. Looks as if I had matching brads too. score! It comes with pink, so I covered the pink dots for the boy card. And finally, the sentiment is from the buck 50 bin at Michael's.
