This week in thrift.. aprons.


This little treasure was spotted by my eagle eyed friend and she allowed my to have it. Too precious not to go home with one of us. And since I have this Portugal connection, i.e. he sleeps in my bed, it's now proudly mine.

The stitching is simply amazing! A well practiced hand has been here. I wonder what it's history is?

The whole thing is a giant pocket! Which is very handing whilst cleaning up and having to bring things from room to room. My DH says it was probably used to gather whatever was for dinner from the garden. Doesn't that sound great? And indeed, we did that when we went to DH's family's home in Portugal.

Another apron is this pink one. The gingham in light pink with all the stitching was a draw again.

A bit of patience here also.

A little lighter for hot summer days crafting outside in the yard. I have some plans.

Mulberries and aprons

I about fell off my chair when I cruised Ikea website and found coated cotton! Yep, they have it. In all it's large polka-dotted glory! in red, bright green, yellow, navy, bright blue, maybe something else......
So I went. it was different than I thought it might be. not plastic-y at all. I was thinking tough like oil cloth. nope. So I bought only half a meter of the red. Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. Do you think it's food grade? Like to make a lunch bag or sandwich wrap? It says it's 100% cotton and acrylic. dunno. do you?

I also brought home some other cotton, the navy and bright blue poka dots and made this apron from Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing. Even though it was an easy sew, it still took me about 3 hours. DD wasn't tired and tried several times to go to sleep. Finally, I just told her to lie down in the guest bedroom (across from my sewing room) she finally fell asleep there at 10:30pm. Then I had DH working on my serger. for 3 hours! Don't give an engineer a puzzle and think they won't finish it. They will sit until it is done! :} My little space was gettting full. But mission was accomplished for a prezzie.



Today, I hit a yard sale by a woman who was a buyer for mulberry papers made in Thailand. She was practically giving it away.
I bought a few things, then came home and thought of things to make for the school fun fair. I landed on the committee somehow and thought these would make great prizes for the games. Just a little sit down to try some ideas...


I decorated the frames and made some book marks and sewed a little book. I think the girlies will enjoy these things. I'm going to see what boy die cuts I have for the bookmarks also. What fun to be had.

my 1st Apron

I've been in sewing mode.. again. Have to make a card tonight though. Stay tuned.

Tia's (aunt's) birthday is in a few days, so I made her an apron. I bought the teapot fabric in Portugal and thought it would be perfect for her, as she is from Portugal, was visiting when we were and ended up on the same return flight as us. bonus!
Anyhow, it was my 1st attempt at an apron. Was not what I had in mind and had to sleep on joining the top to the bottom. I know next time, it won't take as long.

Love the pocket and the orange thread.


Today is my baby's 3rd birthday. We skipped the party this year, as we celebrated with some of my husband's family a few days ago, and will celebrate again with my family when we go to Nova Scotia next week. how many parties can a kid have?! Her avo's (grandfather in Portuguese had a birthday also, and when we go down east, poppy will have one too. special to celebrate with both) She told me this morning that she is still 2 and will not be 3 until she sees nanny, b/c nanny is making her a white cake, with white icing and a purple butterfly. She already put in her order. lol I have convinced her during the day that she is now 3 and she has some to terms with it. little minds.
Wow, a lot of info there. She was happy in this picture, I interrupted her "finger poking the icing" obsession that Avo let her get into.
