I was going to save this one till it was closer to Halloween. But when I saw that I was going to show you my Christmas trees, I thought, heck, let's do early Halloween rather than way too early for Christmas!!
I present... the hairy eyeball!!!! bwahahahahahahaha


This was just too fun. The ring base is from a ring pop. I bought a bunch for bday party, then forgot to give them out. The last time the kids had them, they put them in water to see the colour of the water change! So that's what I did this time. Look ma, no cavities. Like my hand model? :}

Rug hooking

And now, for something completely different....

I bought this kit in Nova scotia this summer, as I was smitten with all the little works I saw in the various tourist shops. I just had to try it. The kit came with 2 pictures to make, the wool yarn and the hook. The hook, OH MY the hook. it hardly had a hook on it. I tried for a few days to make a go of it and couldn't believe that I was having trouble making a go at this crafty endeavour. I mean, I only try to do things if I think I will be successful or have a short learning curve. Why couldn't I do this?


I lugged this kit everywhere with me and was obsessed to make it work. I couldn't figure out how they could sell a completed one in the stores for only 10 bucks and it was taking me forever to do a short row. In the playground one day, one of the dads came to pick up the wee one. He said his mother was a hooker. (in the nicest way possible). I expressed my frustration and determination. He looked at my hook and declared it to "not have a hook" AMEN! So I went home and got my trusty crochet hook. Success!!!

So now, I have a more completed patch. No, I don't know what I'll do with it. Maybe I'll give it to my mother, so she can figure out what to do with it. :} It's not consistent, and oh boy, don't dare look at the back. But I'm learning and I have another one to make better.

Here is a star ornament I also bought in NS. This one is already completed.

Sorry, not much to say today. I have a big chunk of time alone today. (which I find odd and hard to get motivated) I want to be productive, so I better get up from here and just go do something.

going on a rocketship

in the midst of a week long clean/purge/rearranging of my craft room, I just had to clear a spot to work on this guy.


Here is the lineup of how it evolved!


A few tries on the pattern and using inferior materials before committing to my beloved wool blend felt.


The final ship is left sewn on the outside. When I turned it inside out with seams on the inside, it would stretch the felt at the bottom and I couldn't get a nice point on the top. So I decided to leave it as is.

Last year, I bought the FaLaLaLa Felt book online before it came out in book form. I'm beginning to think a lot like Christmas in my head, so I pulled out some wool suiting material I bought in the ends section in the middle of a heat wave (hugely discounted!) and went to print out the pattern.

Oh. My. Goodness!! What trouble I had. My fault. Every time I scanned and tried to resize, it would come out the same size on the printed page. Frustrating. after 1 hour! Yes, 1 hour of cutting into my crafting alone time, I realized the problem: The printer was set on fit to page. So no matter what size it was configured to, it was going to be the same. I tell you so you don't have to go through it too! here endeth the lesson for today.

On to the project:

I had fun with my QuicKutz dies and have made quite a mess on the floor upstairs. But that is upstairs, not where we live everyday, so there it will stay.
A bit of reverse applique...

rainbow acorns

here are the wet felted acorns we made a few days ago.


I needlefelted them a bit first to get a nice round ball. It made it easier to keep the round shape while wet felting.


The kids enjoyed making them and then choosing just the right acorn top for each one.

And here is a mess I decided to tackle today. Unfortunately, a lot of it got cut off to untangle another day.

Here are some new friends I made last night. I'm planning on making a bunch for Christmas tree ornaments

(sorry about the photos. It's the time of year where the weather doesn't cooperate with taking good pictures. the sun came out, but it was a sun shower)

I made a needlefelted bead for the head, then wrapped it with some roving.

They are happy twirling in my window.

wet felted soap

The kids and I were making wet felted balls for acorns, (more on that in a later post. Waiting for them to dry thoroughly) so I tried my hand at wet felting soap.

I have an idea for the next time I do it. And after reading about it a bit more, I need to felt it a little longer.

Here were a few end pieces I put together to felt.

I bought some honey soap at an applefest and will try to felt that also. I'm on a soap collecting mission now.
